Working as a food scout and meat sommelier at meat4you

My name is Christian Welti, but most people just call me Chris.

As a certified meat sommelier and food scout at meat4you, I combine expertise, trends, and enjoyment.

My job is to discover, develop, and bring to life the very best that the world of meat has to offer our customers.

My Role as a Food Scout As a food scout

I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting products. I monitor international trends, test new cuts, analyze quality characteristics, and decide together with the team which products fit into our assortment.

  • Finding and Introducing New Item
  • Researching International Specialties
  • Contacting Producers and Suppliers
  • Quality Testing and Tasting
  • Pricing and Positioning in the Shop
  • Supporting Product Launches

Whether it's special dry-aged cuts, rare breeds, or innovative finishing techniques, my goal is to continually offer our customers new and exciting culinary experiences.

Recipe Development and Food Content

A good product alone isn't enough. You need inspiration.

That's why I develop recipes that showcase our products to their best advantage.

I pay attention to:

  • Seasonal ingredients
  • Trendy cooking methods
  • Easy preparation at home
  • Exciting combinations

Each recipe includes detailed preparation tips, cooking times, core temperatures, and presentation recommendations.

Photoshoots and Product Staging

An important part of my work is the visual presentation of our products.

  • Planning photoshoots
  • Styling meat and dishes
  • Collaborating with photographers
  • Defining the visual style to match the brand

Images must evoke emotions. They should reflect quality, craftsmanship, and enjoyment.

Blog Posts and Knowledge Sharing

As a meat sommelier, sharing knowledge is important to me. In blog posts,

I explain:

  • Differences between cuts
  • Background information on animal husbandry
  • Tips for proper preparation
  • Trends in the world of meat
  • Sensory characteristics

Our customers should feel confident in their purchasing decisions and enjoy the product.

Consultation and Customer Benefits

Expert advice remains paramount. Trust is crucial, even in online retail. At meat4you, we create added value through in-depth expertise, honest recommendations, and transparent information.

As a food scout and meat sommelier, I see myself as a link between producers, products, and customers. I discover, evaluate, develop, and share the stories behind the meat.

Because meat is more than just food. It's culture, craftsmanship, and enjoyment.

But what exactly does a meat sommelier do?

A meat sommelier is far more than just an expert on different cuts. They are a consultant, sensory analyst, trend observer, and storyteller all in one. The goal is not just to sell meat, but to connect it with background knowledge, quality, and inspiration.

The diploma course for meat sommeliers covered topics such as:

  • Cultural history of meat consumption
  • Forms of animal husbandry and their influence on meat quality
  • Animal health and breed characteristics
  • Legal regulations in Switzerland
  • Sensory analysis with practical exercises
  • Quality management such as HACCP and good hygiene practices
  • Butchering and naming of cuts nationally and internationally
  • Production and tasting of meat products
  • Presentation and sales conversations
  • Grilling and cooking seminars
  • Nutrition, trends, and consumer behavior

This knowledge forms the basis of my daily work at meat4you.
